Gareth and Mary’s story started with Gareth asking Mary on Facebook if she was busy.  It was 9:30pm on a week night and Mary wasn’t busy and so replied “no”.  Gareth, trying to think of his next move, decided to invite her to go swimming.  It was not a particularly romantic invitation, and it didn’t sound very appealing, and so Mary, suspecting he was joking, said “yes”.  Gareth had been joking, but in order to save face, decided to go through with it.  He picked her up and they went swimming at 10pm at a local beach near their home town of New Plymouth in New Zealand.  They say the water was “freezing”, but they certainly warmed to each other and their relationship continued to grow over pizzas together and more swims at warmer times.

When it came to planning their wedding, Gareth and Mary spent many hours researching beach locations they could get away to for their wedding day.  They looked at South Pacific Islands, including Rarotonga, but when they saw the Abel Tasman National Park Wedding Package offered by New Zealand Wedding Packages, they felt this was exactly what they were looking for.  The idyllic beach locations matched any beach anywhere else, and being in New Zealand, it meant that there would be less travel for their family and friends.

The wedding day was met with clear blue skies and lots of sunshine, perfect for sailing into the Abel Tasman.  We had arranged for a bus to take their guests from Nelson to Kaiteriteri where they were met by the Gourmet Sailing yacht and crew.  On boarding, everyone was presented with drinks and something to eat before departing for Anchorage Bay.

The calm conditions made for smooth sailing and an hour later we arrived at the spectacular Anchorage Bay with its wide sweeping golden sand beach and natural New Zealand bush backdrop.  The ceremony was conducted by Celebrant Rachael Schepers, and Ginnie Woolf took the photos (some of which you can see in the slide show).

After spending some time on the beach, everyone returned to the yacht for an evening meal of specialty platters, gourmet food and locally made wines and beers.

The boat returned in the evening, completing what was a stunningly beautiful day.  In the words of Gareth and Mary:

“Our wedding organised by New Zealand Wedding Packages was nothing but superb. A number of our guests have already described the day as “their first adventure wedding, they had an absolutely amazing time and are still on a buzz from it”, “the best wedding adventure they have ever been on”, “an amazing unforgettable day” and  “a really lovely day and totally memorable wedding” just to name a few. We wanted a relaxing, fun, memorable day for us and our guests and that is exactly what we got. The whole day was perfect and with minimal input from us the team made sure that all of our requests were fulfilled. We would like to thank everyone involved in our package for all of their efforts. The day exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend the team and the location to everybody who is thinking of getting married in the Nelson region.”
